This guide walks you through setting up and configuring the Cookie Control banner on a Websites 360® site using Google Tag Manager (GTM).
Before getting started, make sure Google Tag Manager is installed and configured on your Websites 360 site. Follow the steps in the Google Tag Manager Setup Guide before proceeding with this tutorial.
You will need the pre-configured Cookie Control container file for Google Tag Manager. Download the file here:
In Google Tag Manager (GTM), go to Admin > Import Container.
Select the JSON file downloaded in Part 2.
Choose the Existing workspace, then select Default Workspace.
Select the Merge radio button, then choose Overwrite.
Navigate to the Tags tab in GTM.
Search for and click on the Cookie Control Template tag.
Paste the API Key from the Zoho task Cookiecontrol into the designated field.
Click Submit and publish the changes.
Note: It may take up to five minutes for the banner to appear on the front end of the website.
Once the banner is live, you must update existing tracking tags to only fire when the user has provided consent. You will do this by creating Trigger Groups.
Paid Advertising Tags For tags including Bing, Facebook, Google Ads, TikTok, OTT, LinkedIn, or Spotify, combine the existing trigger with the marketing_accept custom event:
Open the tag and remove the existing trigger.
Click to add a new trigger and select Trigger Group.
Add the original trigger (e.g., All Pages or Form Submission).
Add the marketing_accept custom event trigger.
Save the tag.
Analytics and Utility Tags For Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the Click to Call (C2C) script, and the Conversion Linker, combine the existing trigger with the analytics_accept custom event:
Open the tag and remove the existing trigger.
Click to add a new trigger and select Trigger Group.
Add the original trigger.
Add the analytics_accept custom event trigger.
Save the tag.
Click Preview in GTM to enter Tag Assistant mode.
Navigate to the website.
Pro Tip to Re-prompt the Banner:
Open the Inspect Tool (F12) and go to the Application tab.
Select Storage and click Clear site data (ensure "including third-party cookies" is checked).
Right-click the refresh button and select Empty Cache and Hard Reload.
Test the functionality by clicking "Accept" or "Do Not Accept" and verify in Tag Assistant that the appropriate Trigger Groups are firing or remaining suppressed.
