If automatic fulfillment is enabled and all products in an order are synced with Printful, the order will be fulfilled automatically. If some products aren't synced, the order will be saved as a draft so you can sync them manually.

Managing Shipping and Taxes

Shipping

Printful calculates shipping rates in two ways: Flat rates and Live rates.

  • Flat rates: These are the default rates. The shipping method used depends on the carrier's availability and price. You can find Printful's flat rates on the Shipping speeds and pricing page.

  • Live rates: These are calculated based on the order's exact weight and destination. Customers choose their preferred shipping method at checkout. To enable live rates, check the box labeled Enable Printful's live shipping rates under Printful > Settings > Shipping.

Note: Disabling a specific shipping method for live rates won't disable it for flat rates. To completely disable a shipping method, you must disable both the flat rate and the method itself.

Taxes

If you use a dropshipping service like Printful, you may have a tax nexus in multiple states. It's a good idea to consult a tax professional or a state government website to find out where you need to collect sales tax. You can create tax rates within your Shop dashboard.

Additional Features

Printful allows you to customize your packing slips, set a return address, and add marketing inserts like flyers or stickers to packages.

Syncing Orders

For Printful to fulfill a new order, the order must have a Paid payment status and an Awaiting Processing fulfillment status. Orders are usually synced every 15 minutes, but it can take up to an hour.

  • Payment Method: If you don't have a credit card or PayPal account linked with Printful, or if your Printful wallet is empty, orders will not be fulfilled and will show up as Failed. To add a payment method, go to Catalog > Printful > Settings > Billing > Billing Methods.

  • Missing Order: If a paid order doesn't show up in your Printful account, you can manually trigger a sync. Go to My Sales > Orders, find the order, and update the order details. This will prompt Printful to check the order and sync it.
