Best Practices for Designing Social Media Images

Best Practices for Designing Social Media Images

So, you’ve got all your social media post content created and ready to post, but what about the image? An image is what draws your audience’s attention into your post. In fact, a social media post accompanied by a photo is ten times more likely to get engagement.

Here are some overall guidelines for creating stellar images for your brand across all your social media platforms:

1. Include your logo or branding (your signature colors, design elements, etc.) somewhere on the image.

2. Consistency is key. There should be no question that this image is part of your brand. Creating templates that you can rotate through is helpful!

3. Ensure that the image you chose supports the content you are posting and goes along with your business’ mission. Using your own photos is a plus!
4. Try not to include too much text on your image. It doesn’t need to tell the whole message, but to simply compliment the message you’re trying to convey to your audience.

  • Be sure to choose a readable, standard font to illustrate your message clearly - sans-serif fonts work best for web
5. Balance is important when designing your image. Think of each of your elements within your image as a weighted item, and ask yourself: If I were to place this image on a balance scale, would it tip to one side?
6. When you choose design elements, be sure to select them to frame what you want your audience to focus on in the image. They should frame and draw your eye into the focus of your image and compliment your content.
7. When centering a logo, product, or image don’t just rely on your eye. Use the tools in the social image editor to make sure it is centered properly.

8. Get creative and have fun with it! The possibilities are endless when it comes to what you can create. It can be as simple and putting your logo in the corner of each post or utilizing professional templates with heavy design elements.
