Set Up Discounts on Your Store

Learn how to create and manage various types of promotions in your online store, including setting sale prices, bulk discounts, and automatic discounts to attract customers and boost sales.

1. Set Sale Prices for Products

A simple way to run a promotion is to set a "sale price" for an individual product. This shows the original price crossed out next to the new, lower price.

  1. From your Shop dashboard, go to Catalog → Products on the left-hand sidebar.
Click the arrow to set the Sale price

  2. Open the product you want to edit.

  3. Click the arrow next to the price field.

  4. Enter the original price in the "Compare to" field. This price must be higher than the current selling price.
    Add the Compare to price

  5. Save your changes.

The product's page will now display the original price with a strikethrough, and a "ON SALE" label will appear on the product image.

2. Create Discount Coupons

A discount coupon is a unique code that a customer can enter at checkout to get a discount. You can offer:

  • A fixed value ($5 off)

  • A percentage discount (10% off)

  • Free shipping

  • A combination of these

To create a new coupon, go to Marketing → Discount Coupons on the left-hand sidebar of your Shop dashboard.

3. Set Up Automatic Discounts

Automatic discounts are a great way to reward customers without requiring them to enter a code. These discounts are applied automatically at checkout and can be based on the order's subtotal or a customer's group.

  • To create an automatic discount, go to Marketing → Automatic Discounts.

  • To create a discount for a specific customer group, you must first set up those groups on the My Sales → Customers page.

4. Offer Bulk Discount Pricing

Bulk discounts offer tiered pricing based on the quantity a customer purchases. This is perfect for encouraging customers to buy more.

  1. From your Shop dashboard, go to Catalog → Products on the left-hand sidebar.

  2. Open the product you want to edit.

  3. Click the arrow next to the price field to access the advanced pricing options.
Click the arrow to see the bulk discounts settings

  4. Enter the quantities and the corresponding prices for each tier (e.g., 5 items for $9 each).
