Create Discount Coupons

Learn how to create and manage discount coupons for your online store, including setting up different discount types, applying restrictions, and tracking coupon usage.

How Discount Coupons Work

Discount coupons are unique codes that customers can enter at checkout to receive a discount on their purchase.

  • Customers can access the coupon field on the cart page by clicking the "Redeem your coupon" link.

  • Your online store allows only one coupon per order. The discount amount is applied to the order's subtotal (the total cost of all items before taxes and shipping).

Add Coupon Restrictions

You can set up specific rules for your coupons to control who can use them, on what, and how often. You can access this from the Discount Coupons page. Open the coupon to edit it and click no limits to make changes.

Set coupon limits

Below are the following restrictions you can add:

Applicable Orders

  • Minimum Order Amount: If you want customers to spend a minimum amount, select "subtotal over" and enter the minimum amount.

Specific Customers

  • All customers: Anyone can apply the code.

  • Repeat customers: Only customers who have placed at least one paid order and are signed into your store can use the code. This is great for rewarding loyal customers.

  • New customers: Only customers who have not yet placed an order can use the code. This is a powerful tool for converting new leads.

Number of Uses

  • Unlimited: The code can be used an unlimited number of times.

  • Once per customer: Each customer can use the code one time with the same email address.

  • Single use: The coupon expires after a single use by any customer.

Specific Products

You can apply a discount to a specific product or category. This is useful for clearing out inventory or promoting seasonal items.

  • Click "Limit by product" or "Limit by category" to select the items that qualify for the discount.

Managing Discount Coupons

You can manage all your coupons from Marketing → Discount Coupons.

  • Filtering: Use filters for name, code, discount type, and usage to quickly find specific coupons.

  • Tracking: Click on the number in the "Uses" column to see a list of all orders that have used that coupon.

  • Pausing: You can temporarily pause a coupon and reactivate it later by turning it off in the list. This is a great way to save a code for a future promotion.
